Caroline Pearson is the Executive Director at the Peterson Center on Healthcare. She enjoys tackling some of the most complex issues in healthcare and brings this passion to the Center’s mission to create a high performing health system that lowers spending and improves outcomes. The Center runs programs that aim to improve healthcare data, support better market functioning, and transform digital health purchasing.

Caroline is a nationally-recognized healthcare expert, with a focus on state and federal health policy, public and private insurance, prescription drugs, and aging issues. She was previously the Senior Vice President for Healthcare Strategy at NORC at the University of Chicago, a nonpartisan research organization. In this role she launched a new department of subject matter experts who deliver actionable research and analysis to health plans, providers, biotech companies, patient groups, and foundations.

Prior to her work at NORC, Caroline was an executive at consulting firm Avalere Health. As the Senior Vice President of Policy and Strategy, she oversaw teams focused on policy, strategic communications, and financial services. She also built a new portfolio of syndicated information and data products and led the firm’s public relations strategy by producing novel analysis to inform the public policy debate.

Caroline’s work has focused on passage and implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and policy changes to address prescription drug access and prices. Her 2019 article, “The Forgotten Middle,” was the 5th most read Health Affairs article of that year, highlighting the growing number of middle-income seniors with unmet health and housing needs. In 2009, Caroline drafted a Bipartisan Policy Center report, led by Tom Daschle and Bob Dole, which advanced a comprehensive health reform proposal in advance of the Congressional debate over the ACA. She is regularly quoted in national and trade press and is a frequent presenter to audiences seeking to understand the health policy landscape.

Caroline graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard University with a B.A. in Government.

David is a healthcare commercial leader with over 20 years experience building and launching innovative products for companies in the digital health, health technology, biopharmaceuticals, and medical devices space. David has held numerous leadership roles across marketing, sales, product development, and strategy and is an expert in the organizational design of health technology companies.

Prior to PHTI, David held commercial leadership roles at two growth stage healthcare technology companies, TMRW Life Sciences and Butterfly Network. David roles included creating sales solutions, leading software development, and building organizational capabilities.

Before joining the Butterfly, David sat on the leadership team at Google Cloud Healthcare and Life Sciences. At Google, he led the design, execution, and commercialization of cloud-based solutions for healthcare providers, insurers, and life science organizations. Prior to Google, David held strategy and marketing roles at Pfizer.

David’s career in healthcare began at Avalere Health, where he was one of the founding members of the reimbursement and product commercialization practice. David holds a degree in history, cum laude, from Princeton University and an MBA in healthcare management from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Prabhjot Singh, MD, PhD, is a physician who believes in a future of healthcare that is advanced, affordable, and available to all. He is a Senior Advisor for Strategic Initiatives at the Peterson Center on Healthcare and the Peterson Health Technology Institute. Most recently, he was Chief Medical Officer of CHW Cares (acquired by Oak Street Health, now part of CVS). He is also the author of Dying and Living in the Neighborhood: A Street Level View of America’s Healthcare Promise (Hopkins Press).

Prabhjot completed a BA in history and BS in biology at the University of Rochester. He earned his MD at Weill Cornell and his PhD in neural and genetic systems at Rockefeller University. He is board-certified in internal medicine and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in sustainable development at Columbia University’s Earth Institute. He was a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation 40th Anniversary Young Leader, Paul and Daisy Soros Fellow, and a Presidential Leadership Scholar.

Meg is passionate about driving change with industry stakeholders to improve health care. Prior to joining the recently launched Peterson Health Technology Institute (PHTI), she was the Vice President of Digital Health Innovations & Strategy at the American Medical Association (AMA) where she developed and led a roadmap of national initiatives with collaborators. This included leading partnerships and innovation strategies, such as the inaugural AMA Healthier Nation Innovation Challenge, the establishment of the AMA Interaction Studio at MATTER, the development of Xcertia digital health guidelines, the creation of the AMA Physician Innovation Network that enables entrepreneurs and physicians to collaborate on the development of new solutions, the AMA Digital Health Implementation Playbook series, Digital Health national research, The AMA Telehealth Immersion Program, and a Return on Health value framework for digital health. She participates on the Advisory Board for MATTER, MassChallenge HealthTech, MedTech Color FDA Collaborative Community, Together.Health, Node Health Global Advisory Board, the Editorial Review Board of The Telehealth and Medicine Today Journal and was a past TEDMed Research Scholar. She was recently named a Rising Star: 104 Healthcare Leaders to Know by Beckers Hospital Review. Meg has published articles in Health Affairs, Harvard Business Review and Nature Digital Medicine and frequently participates at national conferences and events.

Dr. Vanessa Juth, PhD, MPH, MA, is a digital health expert who has studied and implemented innovative solutions that drive measurable improvements within the healthcare ecosystem for the past 20 years.

A passionate advocate for individual and community health, Vanessa’s academic tenure focused on novel research methods for bio-psycho-social determinants of physical and mental health. She then transitioned to life sciences industry; at Allergan and Abbvie, she led efforts to apply digital solutions to improve personalized patient care and enhance healthcare efficiencies.

In her current role as Principal, Assessment at PHTI, Vanessa is leading the effort to evaluate the clinical effectiveness and budgetary impacts of digital health technologies within and across therapeutic areas. Her team works alongside industry-expert partners and grantees to produce a series of evidentiary-based, objective reports on distinct digital health solutions. The reports aim to guide purchasers (as well as other key players within the healthcare ecosystem) to make clinically and economically informed decisions about the adoption and promotion of digital solutions to make healthcare more affordable and accessible for everyone.

Vanessa obtained her PhD in Health Psychology, MPH in Sociocultural Diversity & Health, and MA in Social Ecology from UC Irvine. In recognition of her multi-disciplinary research, she received an NIH fellowship from the Institute of Clinical and Translational Science. She refined her expertise in digital health methodologies during her post-doctoral fellowship at Penn State’s Department of Biobehavioral Health.

Mairin is a health policy expert committed to improving our healthcare system by seeding change through regulatory and legislative action. Mairin serves as a Senior Advisor for Policy for the Peterson Center on Healthcare and the newly formed Peterson Health Technology Institute. Prior to PHTI, Mairin held leadership roles in healthcare research and consulting at NORC at the University of Chicago and Avalere Health. While at NORC and Avalere, she led teams of staff working to deliver policy collateral and strategic advice to health plans, provider organizations, pharmacy benefit managers, health IT companies, pharmaceutical manufacturers, health care trade associations and healthcare investors. Mairin was also the System Director for Policy and Advocacy at Summa Health, an integrated health care delivery system in Akron, Ohio with inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory and post-acute care settings, along with a health plan, an employed physician group and an Accountable Care Organization (ACO). Prior to specializing in healthcare policy, she worked to interpret federal legislative and regulatory happenings for the investment community at FBR Capital Markets and at Washington Analysis. Mairin graduated magna cum laude from Amherst College.

Melinda J.B. Buntin, PhD is a Bloomberg Distinguished Professor of Health Policy and Economics in the Department of Health Policy and Management in the Bloomberg School of Public Health and in the Carey Business School at Johns Hopkins University. She joins Hopkins from Vanderbilt University, where she was University Distinguished Professor in the Departments of Health Policy; Leadership, Policy and Organization; and Medicine, Health, & Society and where she held the Mike Curb Chair for Health Policy as Chair of the Department of Health Policy, Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. Dr. Buntin trained in health policy with a concentration in economics at Harvard University where she received her Ph.D. in 2000.

She started her professional career at RAND Health and transitioned into several health policy leadership roles during her 12 years in Washington, D.C. She was the Director of the Office of Economic Analysis, Evaluation and Modeling at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology and was Deputy Director of Health, Retirement and Long-Term Analysis at the Congressional Budget Office. In 2013, she became the founding Chair of the Department of Health Policy at Vanderbilt University, a multidisciplinary department within a medical school. During her tenure she grew the faculty from 9 to 22 and started a Health Policy track in the MPH program and a Ph.D. Program in Health Policy. Under her leadership and vision, it has become one of the leading departments of its kind.  At Hopkins, she is establishing a Center for Health Systems and Policy Modeling to help decisionmakers understand the implications of policies affecting the U.S. health care system.

Tom lnsel, M.D., a psychiatrist and neuroscientist, has been a national leader in mental health research, policy, and technology.  From 2002-2015, Dr. Insel served as Director of the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). More recently, he led the Mental Health Team at Verily (2015-2017); co-founded Mindstrong Health (2017-2019), a start-up building tools for people with serious mental illness; and served as a special advisor to California Governor Gavin Newsom (2019), helping on behavioral health issues. In 2020, he co-founded Humanest Care, a therapeutic online community for recovery. In 2022, he joined Vanna Health as a co-founder and executive chair. Peter Long, PhD is executive vice president for strategy and health solutions at Blue Shield of California, where he is responsible for creating and executing strategies to realize the organization’s vision for a healthcare system that is both family-worthy and sustainably affordable. This work includes collaborations with healthcare providers, community leaders, and other stakeholders to design innovative clinical and community programs, healthcare delivery, and payment systems. Long spearheaded the launch of Health Reimagined, an innovative plan transforming healthcare since 2020, and played a pivotal role in the California Advanced Primary Care Initiative, strengthening the primary care delivery system state-wide.  

Previously, Long was president and chief executive officer of Blue Shield of California Foundation. His extensive career spans leadership roles at the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, The California Endowment, and service in South Africa during the country’s transition to democracy. Long has written extensively on a range of health policy topics, including co-authoring three National Academy of Medicine Leadership Consortium reports, including on digital health. He holds a Doctorate from the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, where he serves an adjunct professor, as well as a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and bachelor’s degree from Harvard University. Long is a member of multiple boards, including Integrated Healthcare Association, California Quality Collaborative, California Association of Health Plans, Manifest Medex, PriMed (Hill Physicians Managed Services Organization), and Primary Care Collaborative.  

Margaret is a dynamic healthcare technology leader with extensive experience across startups, government, and corporate sectors. Most recently she served as Co-CTO of Devoted Health where she helped build the foundational technology that has supported Devoted’s exceptional growth and high member satisfaction.

Her previous roles include leading Engineering for the Broad Institute’s Data Science Platform, VP of Platforms at Runkeeper (acquired by ASICS), and co-founder/CTO of Pepperlane. Margaret also served as a technologist with the U.S. Digital Service under President Obama and a Steering Committee Member of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation-funded Health Data Exploration Project.

In her current role, Margaret advises a range of high-profile healthcare startups, collaborating with leading venture capital firms. Her strategic guidance, on areas from team building to product execution to managing rapid scale, helps these companies navigate the complex intersection of technology and healthcare. Margaret holds a bachelor’s degree from Columbia University and a master’s from New York University’s Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP).

Anaeze C. Offodile II, MD, MPH  is the Executive Vice-President and Chief Strategy Officer of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK). In this capacity, he is leading strategy efforts and care transformation initiatives at MSK by continuing to develop the core infrastructure, management systems, and processes for enterprise strategy and business development.

He is a graduate of Kent State University, Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, and the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. He completed surgical training at Brigham & Women’s Hospital (General Surgery), Lahey Clinic (Plastic Surgery) and MD Anderson Cancer Center (Microvascular fellowship). He serves on the editorial board of Annals of Surgery, is the recipient of competitive extramural funding (>$5 million) from the NIH, National Academy of Medicine,and Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and has published in journals such as Journal of Clinical Oncology, Nature Medicine, Lancet, Annals of Surgery, JAMA Network Open, JAMA Surgery, JAMA Health Forum, and Health Affairs. He was the 2019-2021 Gilbert Omenn Fellow at the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) and previously a strategic advisor to the World Economic Forum and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI).

William Shrank, MD serves as Venture Partner at Andreessen Horowitz. Previously, Dr. Shrank served as Chief Medical Officer for Humana, where he implemented Humana’s integrated care delivery strategy. Previously Dr. Shrank was the Chief Medical Officer, Insurance Services Division, at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, where he was responsible for clinical operations, policy and quality for approximately 3.5 million members in Medicare, Medicaid, behavioral health, Managed Long Term Social Supports and commercial lines of business. He also developed and evaluated population health programs. Prior to that, Dr. Shrank served as Senior Vice President, Chief Scientific Officer, and Chief Medical Officer of Provider Innovation at CVS Health.

From 2011-2013, Dr. Shrank was the Director of the Research and Rapid-Cycle Evaluation Group at the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation at CMS, where he led the evaluation of payment and health system delivery reform programs and developed the rapid-cycle strategy to promote continuous quality improvement. Dr. Shrank began his career as a practicing physician with Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and was an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Shrank received his M.D. from Cornell University Medical College and holds a Master of Science degree in Health Services from the University of California and a bachelor’s degree from Brown University.

Ariel Dora Stern, PhD is the Poronui Associate Professor of Business Administration in the Technology and Operations Management Unit at Harvard Business School and a Faculty Member of the Harvard-MIT Center for Regulatory Science. Ariel’s research focuses on technology management and innovation in health care, using methods from econometrics and data science to curate and analyze novel datasets. From 2020-2021 Ariel served as the Director for International Health Care Economics at the Health Innovation Hub, an independent think tank of the German Federal Ministry of Health focused on digital transformation projects. She is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Society for Digital Medicine and has advised numerous health care startups. In 2024, is slated to assume the chair for Digital Health, Economics and Policy at the Hasso Plattner Institute, where she has been named an Alexander von Humboldt Professor.

Dr. Charlotte Yeh is the Chief Medical Officer for AARP Services, Inc. (ASI), the wholly-owned taxable subsidiary of AARP.  ASI manages the carrier relationships for and performs quality control oversight of the wide range of products and services that carry the AARP name and are made available by independent carriers as benefits to AARP’s almost 40 million members.

In her role, Dr. Yeh works with the independent carriers that make health-related products and services available to AARP members, to identify programs and initiatives that will lead to enhanced care for older adults.  She directs AARP Services’ efforts to meet expanding member expectations in healthcare and leads new process improvement programs focused transforming health care delivery in the areas of quality, safety and efficiency.

Dr. Yeh has become widely recognized for her deep commitment to the consumer voice in health care, in addition to being a sought-after speaker on issues that matter to people 50+ as they age, such as brain health, caregiving, hearing, care coordination and healthy living.  Dr. Yeh’s work at ASI reflects her passionate interest in the vitality and resilience that come with aging, as well as her belief that health care should be about helping people live successfully every day.

Dr. Yeh has more than 30 years experience in healthcare. She is a board-certified emergency physician, trained in emergency medicine at UCLA. She practiced emergency medicine for thirteen years at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Massachusetts, where she also served as the chief of the department for seven years. Dr. Yeh also worked for eight years as Physician-in-Chief for the Department of Emergency Medicine at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, before being named Carrier Medical Director for the National Heritage Insurance Company, a contractor for Medicare Part B claims for Northern New England.

From 2003 to 2008, Dr. Yeh served as Regional Administrator at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in Boston. In her position there, she was responsible the Medicare, Medicaid and SCHIP programs across the six New England states.  During her tenure, Dr. Yeh directed the implementation of the Medicare Modernization Act, the single biggest expansion of the Medicare program since its inception more than forty years ago.

In recent years, Dr. Yeh was a former member of the Optum Labs Scientific Advisory Board, the Advisory Council for the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communicable Disorders, and Board of Managers for the Personal Connected Health Alliance.  Dr. Yeh is also a former member of the Boards of the American Hospital Association, the Center for Health Design, the Massachusetts Hospital Association, the Massachusetts College of Emergency Physicians, the Health Research and Education Trust, the American College of Emergency Medicine, and the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts Foundation. She is the former chair of the Massachusetts Trauma Committee and former medical director of the Metropolitan Boston Emergency Medical Services Council. She has lectured frequently on blending clinical practice with the legal requirements of the Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act, which guarantees access to emergency care.

Committed to connecting underserved communities to better health care while addressing the cultural values of the many diverse members AARP serves, Dr. Yeh currently participates on a number of important councils, committees and boards, including the Dementia Discovery Fund Scientific Advisory Board, the Board of Directors for the Coalition to Transform Advanced Care, the Board of Directors for The Schwartz Center for Compassionate Care, and the HLTH Foundation Techquity for Health Coalition .

Dr. Yeh has received numerous awards and honors for her efforts on behalf of patients. Notably, Modern Healthcare named Dr. Yeh to the 2021 class of the 50 Most Influential Clinical Executives. In March, 2017, the International Institute of New England recognized Dr. Yeh as one of its honorees for International Women’s Day. In October 2012, OCA awarded Dr. Yeh a National Asian Pacific American Corporate Achievement Award for her leadership and commitment to diversity in the workplace.  In April 2011, Dr. Yeh was the recipient of The American Hospital Association 2011 Board of Trustees Award.  She was also the recipient of the 2010 Outstanding 50 Asian Americans in Business Award.  In 2009, she was awarded the Rx for Excellence Award by the Massachusetts Medical Law Review for promoting safety, quality and risk management in health care.  Dr. Yeh received the 2006 President’s Award from the Metropolitan Boston Emergency Services Council and was awarded the Secretary’s Award for Distinguished Service from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in 2004.  In 2003, she received Massachusetts College of Emergency Physicians’ Pinnacle Award.  Dr. Yeh accepted the John Mills Award for Outstanding Contributions to Emergency Medicine in 1999 and in 1995 received the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Public Service Award for her strong advocacy on access to emergency services.

Dr. Yeh received a bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois and her medical degree from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago. She completed her internship in General Surgery at the University of Washington at Seattle and her residency in Emergency Medicine at the University of California at Los Angeles.
